Your hair that is… we just aren’t one of those diet pills and potions kind of blogs. The long and short of it is that with summer just a moment away it’s time to start brainstorming the ways in which you want to freshen up your look.

We say, never under estimate the fun of short carefree locks for summer. Why? Because summer is all about the low key matienence, the whole she woke up like this and just was at the beach all day and happens to look like a goddess kind of vibe. The easiest way to do that is to keep your hair shorter and easier to maintain and change.

Mind you, it’s a complete myth that if you go short you’ve committed to one style. Take the celeb/style world’s love affair with the blunt cut (we’ve had one for the last 3 years, aren’t we boring) essentially the blunt cut is this…

One straight layer. No feathering, no layering just the thickness of your hair in all its glory. When you first get the trim the wet hair should be straight and precise enough to give someone a paper cut. Fun fact: It’s a great test of your stylists skill, the blunt cut is not for the faint of heart or those who like to hide mistakes with specialty scissors or an extra layer for “body”. No, no, the blunt cut doesn’t suffer fools it’s a pass-fail kind of deal.

But a blunt cut doesn’t have to be short – however that is the trend. The blunt cut bob which then lends itself to styling as much as you want. Tousled bed head waves, slick straight angles, slight waves. The hair is just long enough to style and move as you need but short enough that you get the easy breezy matienence of short hair. No wonder it’s the go-to look as of right now… really its who hasn’t gone under the scissors and ditched the extensions for the season.

Short doesn't mean you give up your bangs. Frame that face!

Want something just that much more different? What if you did a full on bob or pixie and then let it grow out into a blunt bob. In other words: Have a pixie for spring and then tell your stylist you want to let it grow out and upkeep it to become a blunt bob (a la Jennifer Lawrence). Just a thought.

Don’t forget, having a blunt cut doesn’t mean your forgo the bang (look at age old besties Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss) or a bit of face framing taylor-swift-hair-2014-2(someone like Cobie Smulders). The essentials is that you have something that frames your face as you need and want and just keep the rest blunt and short… then style to your hearts content.

Just think how coolly low key you will look when you show up to that party this summer and you can say “I was running so so late, I barely had time to get ready” and it’s true but you still look fabulous? Sigh.
